Selecting the Right Junior College For You

First off, Congratulations! You either just graduated from High School and are ready to take the next step in your education, or you are heading back to school to enhance your education. Either way, you are probably looking at your different Junior College or Community College options . You may be trying to weigh the differences between attending a University or a Junior College for the first two years of your education as well.

For most, this is big decision that should not be taken lightly. There are many factors to consider before you make a formal decision on moving forward such as Financial costs, location, Career choices, Credit transfer opportunities, Specialties, and athletics.

Below we will walk through some of the items that should be considered when selecting the correct Junior College for you.

Financial Considerations

One of the many considerations for most is the cost of a college education. The difference most times in cost between a University and a Junior College can be significant. The costs can be decreased further if you stay in your local area to attend Junior or Community College. The in state rate for most residents is typically very affordable.

On option that most students consider is attending a Junior or Community College for the first two years and meet all the initial requirements prior to transferring to a four year institution. Economically this makes a lot of sense. In addition, many also reduce their expenses further by staying at home for these first two years to offset some of the living expenses related to the first two years of college.

Before taking this route, make sure to research the different options for transferring your credits from the Junior College or Community College of choice. Many times this is relatively straight forward unless you are attending a very specialized College.

Location , Location, Location

It is very common for most to consider those Junior Colleges in their immediate area. While the financial decision there is a no brainer, there are other factors to consider.

Take a good long look at where you want to be in 5 years. What industry and career are you leaning towards? What is your passion?

Often times the Junior College search does not include Junior Colleges outside the student home state. That could be a mistake. You need to consider what industry your are persuing and seek out those Colleges in those regions. These regions may have internship opportunities, or other entry level positions that can assist in getting to where you want to be. Yes, the cost is often more for out of state residents, but if it accelerates your career forward even better.

Career Choices

Before you finalize on a Junior College, make sure you are getting the best education possible for your area of interest. Many Junior Colleges have strong programs that get you started on the right foot while gaining credits towards your BA degree.

You can find Junior Colleges that have strong Computer Science and Nursing programs. Many of these are highly regarded and can assist in getting your foot in the door at a four year institution. Make sure to ask the College Counselors specifically about your area of interest and your Career goals. If they are honest they may direct you to a more suitable Junior or Community College that fits you.

Athletic Choices

Are you an athlete looking to compete at the collegiate level? If so, many have had success at starting their collegiate athletic career in a Junior College and transferring to a University. Often times the University athletic programs are superior in quality and depth.

Why not start at the Junior College level and work your way up. Often, University coaches will recruit from local Community and Junior Colleges. This is a great way to stay competitive and work your way up. Many Junior Colleges also provide athletic scholarships for Baseball, Basketball, Volleyball etc..

Don’t overlook these opportunities if you want to continue competing in College.

History of Dunn Bros. Coffee

Dunn Bros Coffee was founded by Ed Dunn in 1987. In college, he took note of the success of coffeehouses in certain areas of the country. To gain a deeper grasp of the industry, Ed Dunn immersed himself in the food service industry and coffee-related retail work.

Particularly, in December of 1987, Ed opened his first coffeehouse with the help of his brother, Dan, in St. Paul, Minnesota. The two decided to open the Dunn Bros Coffee in St. Paul because the area was similar to Portland, Oregon–another area of the country with a large coffee-drinking population.

Dunn Bros Coffee is a coffee franchise spreading across the Midwest. Dunn Bros Coffee has locations in Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, and Wisconsin. With a team of friendly staff, they are looking to expand across the country.

Do not compare a Dunn Bros Coffee franchise to a Starbucks franchise. Dunn Bros Coffee has become particularly well known for on-site roasting. Ed had an accurate vision that the coffee drinker was enthralled by the smell of fresh coffee. If you are an entrpreneur looking for the next coffee franchise that will take the country by storm, Dunn Bros Coffee is it. Unlike Starbucks, who has yet to perfect on-site roasting, Dunn Bros Coffee is a franchise that has not saturated the market. They still have immense room for growth.

And, as already mentioned, their team of friendly staff works as one unit to ensure the successful launch of any new Dunn Bros Coffee franchise. If you are interested in the successful launch of your own Dunn Bros Coffee franchise, their contact information is as follows:

Franchise Support Center
111 3rd Ave South
Minneapolis, MN
55401

Phone
612-334-9746

The Franchise Support Center is located at the Dunn Bros Coffee headquarters.

Bradley G. Smith is a successful author. He writes and designs online content for small businesses. Read more information about Dunn Bros.

Championship Betting Review – 5 February 2006

Reading saw off rock-bottom Crewe to set a 31-match unbeaten record for the second tier of English football. Reading have not lost a league match since their opening day defeat against Plymouth and even at 2/5 will have had plenty of support from punters. Crewe managed to take the lead after 14 minutes but found themselves 3-1 behind at the break, with Reading edging the match 4-3 at full time.

Leeds United maintained their position in third place with a 2-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers. Leeds, who had won their last three fixtures at Elland Road, could be backed at 4/6 and goals from Richard Cresswell and Paul Butler sealed all three points.

Aki Riihilahti marked his first start for Crystal Palace since September with the winning goal against Cardiff City. Palace, at 4/5 took the lead after 70 minutes and an equaliser for Cameron Jerome was disallowed for an earlier foul.

Preston were the only play-off team to slip up, being held to a goalless draw at Stoke. North End, now unbeaten in 22 matches, will have disappointed backers at 7/5 after Paul McKenna missed a penalty with three minutes remaining.

Luton let an early lead against visitors Hull slip, with the Tigers winning at large 10/3 odds. Keith Keane gave Mike Newell’s side the lead after eight minutes but Hull fought back with goals from Stuart Elliott, Daryl Duffy and Jon Parkin to lead 3-1 at half time. Chris Coyne headed in a second for Luton with four minutes left to set up a tense finale.

Managerless Leicester edged out of the bottom three with an unlikely 9/5 win over play-off chasers Wolves. Matty Fryatt’s goal in the 70 minute earned the Foxes their first back-to-back victory of the season and their first home win in six attempts.

Sheffield Wednesday boosted their battle against the drop with a win at Millwall. Frank Simek’s goal secured a win for the Owls at 2/1 and sees them four points clear of relegation.

On Sunday, the “Old Farm” derby between Norwich and Ipswich produced an away win at tasty 11/4 odds. On loan Jonatan Johansson opened the scoring on his Canaries debut after 33 minutes but Jimmy Juan equalised five minutes later. The match ended in controversy as Danny Haynes appeared to use his hand to bundle in the ball although the goal was officially given as a Gary Doherty own goal.
